'Anna' Univ & its 'Big Brother' Attitude
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recently read a news article related to Anna university's new 'atrocious' guidelines for students. According to the new rules, students belonging to the univ should NOT do the following inside the college premises:
* Wearing Jeans pant and T-shirts, for both boys and girls
* Wearing mini skirts or any other revealing clothes, for girls
* Dancing to film songs in cultural festivals
* Using Mobile phones
I am just wondering where all these ridiculous rules will lead to? Until plus two, all the students were forced to wear school uniforms and they regain their freedom to wear fashionable clothes only during college days. If Anna enforces these rules, its back to square one. I feel its like sentencing four more years of rigrous imprisonment for a prisoner who just completed life imprisonment (12 years).
Some rules like mini skirts and mobile phones which causes nuisance makes some sense. Rather than banning the cellphones totally, the univ should have instructed the students to switch off their mobiles during class session.
Cultural'la cinema paatukku dance aadama, thyagarajar keerthanai'ka dance aada mudiyum? its the MOST stupid'est rule.
One of the drawback of banning fashionable clothes is, our students will lose their dressing sense. After college when they land up in some plump jobs in MNC, they will start feeling the heat from day one.
While universities like Harvard in US have gone 'overboard' and are publishing porn magazines (http://www.h-bomb.org/) to loosen up the 'Nerd' mentality of their students, Anna is going backwards. Anna univ students doesnt need porn (they have other sources to find it) but give their freedom and stop poking nose into their rights.
I have heard these kind of rules in private colleges run by Jeppiar and other 'Goondas' turned 'Politician' turned 'Educationalists'. But these rules in a premier institution like Anna is worrying and definitely a shame!!
In short, these kind of rules lacks foresight and does not fit into the kind of world we live in.
