Like any other investor I am also very much puzzled over this behaviour of the markets. Even the FM and PM have started losing their sleep and had instructed SEBI to monitor the markets more closely for any unusual activities.

Most of the financial news reports attribute this sudden rise in the sensex to the continuous flow of FII (Foreign Institutional Investor) money into the Indian markets. According to those reports this flow is due to the fast growth of Indian economy (8.1% growth during first quarter of 2005) and the associated belief in India rising stories.

But my worries are how long would the market sustain this high level? Since the FIIs are not under any control from Indian govt. and if they start pulling their money out of BSE/NSE then it would contribute to a huge downfall in sensex/nifty. It shows that sensex can be easily manipiulated by external players (FII) which is definitely not a very good sign. Already in the past our markets were battered by scamsters like Harshad Mehta and others. Another scam in the name of FII will give a body blow to the financial strength of the country.

The spurt of satellite channels are providing too much information about the markets from half-baked journalists. I am very critical of these channels and news papers which provide rosy picture of the markets and induce the retail investors into the already 'abnormally' HIGH markets. I am sure those who enter the stock exchanges during this bull run are going to lose their shirt unless otherwise they enter a fundamentally strong stock. I can only hope this bull run is not a scam as in the past, rest lies in the hands of SEBI. With all my fingers crossed I am hoping for the sensex to become stable sooon....

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.

Annoyed of anonymous Sploggers!! This film revolves around the kids born and brought up in brothels located in Calcutta's red light area 'Sonagachi'. It was horrible to see the sufferings of these kids who are abused, insulted and sweared using filthiest of filthiest words. To make matters worse they are all totally ostracized by the society.

This film is very well documented by Zana and Ross Kauffman. Zana is a photograher who went to the red light area to study about the sex workers. During her stay she befriended their kids and started teaching photography to them. After a while she decided to take those kids out of the brothels and provide them good education. This film captures all her troubles and obstacles in getting those kids out of the brothels. She even raised money by auctioning the photos taken by the kids in New York and took a kid, Avijit, to Amsterdam for representing as child photographer from India. In the end she succeeded in persuading both the parents and the boarding schools for providing education to the kids. Being a foreigner, the achievements made by Zana in Calcutta after crossing all the bureaucracy hurdles is just amazing. I have no words to appreciate her accomplishments.

However the film does not have a happy ending, only one girl is still studying in the boarding school. Other childrens were either dropped out or taken out for business by their parents. I left the theatre with a heavy heart...

ilamayil varumai
migavum kodumai

See the review @ IMDB
Donot miss this movie if you get a chance to watch it.

ps1: To my surprise the theatre was filled with all Americans and apart from the core issue nothing 'very' bad about India was intentionally portrayed in the movie.

ps2: This film had won Oscar and several other awards.

COMMENTS

Italy or India?

Got this interesting link thru a fwd.

http://www.infonegocio.com/xeron/bruno/italy.html
Be patient till it gets fully loaded......

There seem to be not much diff between (I)talian and (I)ndian :o)

4 COMMENTS

India Sliming!!!

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; I wonder whether it is purely coincidental or a marketing strategy to come out with a sex issue in order to prevent other magazine from gaining market share. It is disgusting to see both the magazines carrying such smutty articles on its covers.

Yellow journalism and sensationalism have nowadays become flavors for many magazines. This is a disturbing trend which will eventually destroy 'quality' journalism. Another worrying factor is the sales of such magazines which gives enough confidence for other magazines to take a plunge into the world of smut.

When there are porn magazines to deal with such surveys and articles, why should IndiaToday and Outlook publish these stuffs? Are they running short of news articles? Are they concerned more about their profit than their reputation? The kind of articles published by IndiaToday and Outlook are like Doordarshan showing porn movies to grab market share. Shame on these magazines!!!

8 COMMENTS

Oru Constable'in kadhai

Its one fine morning in Chennai and the traffic on Mount road is at its peak. He is very aggressive in his methods and will catch anyone for some ridiculous reasons just to rip some money out of them. On any given day he will make sure that he earn atleast 1000 -2000 rupees.

Durai has one little son who is very intelligent in studies. His son has been demanding a bicycle for the past few months. Since he had made high 'investments' to get into Spencers signal, he has been postponing the bicycle for his son. But now he is determined to get a new bicycle as soon as possible and gift it to his only son.

One evening Durai came to his home with a new 'BSA SLR' bicycle. His son was surprised to see the new bicyle and was very much impressed. The son also had a good news for his dad. He informed his dad that he had won the first prize in the inter-school elocution contest. The proud dad asked him, "What was the topic of your speech?". The son replied, "How to eliminate corruption in India?" Now Durai was speechless like his poor victims and felt for the gift bought using his bribes.

ps: This is not a real story. But we have many Durai among us.

4 COMMENTS

Vijay KHANth

Based on popular request from our blog community (esp Arjuna and others), Captain had decided to don the role of S R Khan in the Lux ad for the South Indian audience. Here is the picture of our captain enjoying his bath in the bath tub filled with rose petals.

trivia 1:
At first during the ad shoot everyone was stunned to see the fair body of our captian. Then Vijaykanth revealed that he used 'fair and lovely' regularly to attain this amount of fairness, but the cream was totally unfair to him and turned everything except the face into fairness. So he is now contemplating to change his nickname from 'karuppu' MGR to 'black and white' MGR.

trivia 2:
The producers of this ad had a tough time with our captian during the shooting. On the day of shooting, captian was in his usual ferocious mood of killing Paki terrorists. They were unable to control him from kicking the water in the tub. They tried every method to control his legs but all failed. Their repeated attempts to educate him that it is just an ad shoot also failed. And atlas they used 'special' Fevicol to fix his legs to the bath tub and then the shooting started.

Now its the time for Captain to reveal his beauty secret to the world. He ignores the standard script used by the Lux ad makers and decides to use his own script.

Take 1:
"Eppo namma naadu ulaga porulaadharathil pannandaavathu eduthula irukku. Ennoda body paarunga (shows his fair body) azhukku poi sutham aayedichu. Vaangunga Luchh"

Now the Ad director has gone half mad with our captains script.
Ad Director: sir. this ad is for only 2 mins not for 2 hrs. Evlo periya dialogue vendam sir. Chinnadha sollunga please. '
Captain: Naan chinnadha sonna en rasigargal othukka maatanga. But I will dry my pest (try my best).

Take 2:
" Veezhvathu namm jattyaga irundhalum naam poaduvathu Luchh'aga irukkattum"

Cut!!
AD director is happy now and okays the ad. This ad eventually grabs the topmost TRP ratings and has been nominated for the best ads of 2005.

trivia 3:
Initially the Lux ad makers were approached by T Rajendar to perform in this ad. But they were scared after doing a screen test for him. An exclusive snap from the screen test is shown below.

Now TR advertises:

dey paapu
enakku edhukuda doopu
naan thaanda topu
anga paaru thoapu
aaya kadai soupu
poattuko Lux'u soapu

ah! dandanakka! ah! danakunakka!!

13 COMMENTS

SuiciDIE

There was a news article in which a woman has committed suicide for not able to watch her favorite movie. It is disgusting to read such news items. The saddest part is that the woman had 2 little kids. Does this woman know the value of her life? Did she ever think how much suffering she will be bringing on the two kids? Who will substitute her and bring up the children? There is no known substitute for mothers love and definitely the 2 kids do not deserve to be left alone all for her inability to watch a ‘junk’ Tamil movie. If she had waited for another week or so, the same Tamil movie would have been screened in some satellite television with this ad (ulaga thoLLaiKaatchigalil mudhal muraiaga…..). There can also be other reasons which forced her to take this extreme step. But this incident shows how people are nowadays becoming impatient in our society for even a slightest of disappointments. Before taking such an extreme step one should always think about the people who are physically disabled by birth and are fighting to live a dignified life in our society. They are the only people who know the true value of life and I salute them for their determination and perseverance.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Now on a lighter side, in future we might read the following news articles:

A man stopped his breath for not able to start his bike.

A grandpa kills himself after his walking stick got broken.

A woman ends her life for losing her favorite ‘windows’ blouse.

A college student jumped out of third floor for not receiving any SMS’es for 2 mins.

A hardcore Vijayakanth fan set himself on fire after losing his bid to get captain’s unwashed underwear from an auction.

A software engineer jumped into a well when his code ran without any bugs.

A college girl hanged herself when she was taught how to wear her ‘dupatta’ correctly.

A 6-months old baby attempted suicide after her repeated attempts to speak Tanglish failed.

29 COMMENTS

Varaaru Varaaru Vanthutaaru!!

The next week is going to be a big one for captain's fans all over the world. Yeah, he is entering the sewage of politics in the name of cleansing it (going by his looks, he may be the right person to clean ONLY the sewage). I was just awestruck, spellbound and finally appalled on seeing the ad for his conference. The ad also has a 'mini' speech by captain in which he speaks his ideologies. To know more about his conference and his party's theme song click on the link provided (total fun guaranteed for 3 mins).

I cudnt understand why Vijaykanth is entering politics in the name of rendering service to the people. Is he shy to admit his craving for power? I have read news about him providing help to the poor and the needy quite often. But now the cat is out of the bag, all his acts of helping the poor are just a mask for him to enter the politics and capture power. After all, in politics any DOG can become a CM/PM if the lady luck is smiling on them e.g Laloo, Rabri, Deve Gowda, JJ etc.

I dont think for captain, TN politics is going to be as easy as hunting Paki terrorists in films. The only thing he has done in all his movies is to kill the terrorists either with his gun or using his oratory skills. TN so far doesnt have any big threat from terrorists. So to prove his patriotism why dont he enter politics in Kashmir and serve Kashmir people? I heard even his reply, "Naan mudhalla oru thamizhan apporam thaan Indian". My intention to send him out of TN has bombed immediately :(

If at all Captain becomes CM the following may happen:
For mens: All mens above 18 will be trained to play 'bambaram' alias spinning top
For womens: All womens above 18 shud show their 'thoppul' alias navel, for the men to spin 'bambaram' on their navel. (aiya jolly, ennoda vottu captainku thaan!!!)
One thing is sure, captain's election symbol will be a combo of 'bambaram' and 'thoppul'. He will be the first person on earth to design a party/election symbol involving navel. Hatsoff!!!

I wonder whether acting in tamil films to gain popularity and enter politics is the only way to become CM in TN? Why the hell TN is cursed to be ruled by film personalities? Cant we find one educated person from 6.5 crore population to rule our state? Do we need these 'echai kaalais' from film industry? Even actor Vijay, who never washes his face in any of his movies, is having future political ambitions. GOD save TN from these morons!!!

If anyone can find ANY difference between the two pictures below they will be provided 1000 porkaasu. I know its going to be real TOUGH one but try ur best......

 12 COMMENTS

TAGGED!!!!

I was tagged by Arjuna (mavaney nee en kaila maatna irukku da.....)

Seven things you plan to do before you die
1. I dont need to tell you how badly the city is affected but just wanted to make a comparison of this tragedy with Indian tragedies like tsunami and Mumbai floods. Still the number of people died from Katrina is not clear but its not going to be more that of tsunami.

What has astonished me is the total ineffiency of the US government in handling this tragedy. After the hurricane left, the city went into lawlessness and its in complete anarchy. The so called civilized citizens of US broke into the submerged shops and looted everything. The unaffected parts of the city also faced similar lootings, arson, rape and other violences which one normally sees in Africa.

When Mumbai got drenched in rains, its nearly 2-crore residents didnt resort to violence as a means to get relief from the inefficient Maharashtra government. I havent read any reports of looting in Mumbai either. Not all Mumbai residents are literates but they all had the heart to help out each others in distress during the rains. When tsunami struck TN, it recovered soon because of people efforts and due credits has to be given to TN CM Jayalalitha and Nagapattinam Collector Radha Krishnan for their speedy efforts. On the whole it is the collective initiative of the people and their bonding which we develop in our society in India helped us to recover from tsunami and Mumbai tragedies.

Unlike in India where one can socialize with neighbours, people to people contact is very minimum in US. So when a tragedy like Katrina occurs everyone runs helter-skelter and doesnt care about other persons in distress. People in US are always fixated to 911 and expect the govt to help them out every time. When the govt fails like it happened in New Orleans, anarchy breaks out. In this regard, I think people in India are all better equipped in dealing with such tragedies and are very much tolerant to governmental inefficiencies. Maybe US has to learn some lessons from India.......

18 COMMENTS

'Anna' Univ & its 'Big Brother' Attitude
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recently read a news article related to Anna university's new 'atrocious' guidelines for students. According to the new rules, students belonging to the univ should NOT do the following inside the college premises:
* Wearing Jeans pant and T-shirts, for both boys and girls
* Wearing mini skirts or any other revealing clothes, for girls
* Dancing to film songs in cultural festivals
* Using Mobile phones
I am just wondering where all these ridiculous rules will lead to? Until plus two, all the students were forced to wear school uniforms and they regain their freedom to wear fashionable clothes only during college days. If Anna enforces these rules, its back to square one. I feel its like sentencing four more years of rigrous imprisonment for a prisoner who just completed life imprisonment (12 years).
Some rules like mini skirts and mobile phones which causes nuisance makes some sense. Rather than banning the cellphones totally, the univ should have instructed the students to switch off their mobiles during class session.
Cultural'la cinema paatukku dance aadama, thyagarajar keerthanai'ka dance aada mudiyum? its the MOST stupid'est rule.
One of the drawback of banning fashionable clothes is, our students will lose their dressing sense. After college when they land up in some plump jobs in MNC, they will start feeling the heat from day one.
While universities like Harvard in US have gone 'overboard' and are publishing porn magazines (http://www.h-bomb.org/) to loosen up the 'Nerd' mentality of their students, Anna is going backwards. Anna univ students doesnt need porn (they have other sources to find it) but give their freedom and stop poking nose into their rights.
I have heard these kind of rules in private colleges run by Jeppiar and other 'Goondas' turned 'Politician' turned 'Educationalists'. But these rules in a premier institution like Anna is worrying and definitely a shame!!
In short, these kind of rules lacks foresight and does not fit into the kind of world we live in.
COMMENTS
Why should u get married?
Marriage has been the flavor of this season. A quick analysis of my mailbox shows that in the past 3-4 months alone I have recieved atleast 2 marriage invitations per week from my friends circle. This is quite interesting, considering the fact that I too belong to the same age group as my friends and never thought about marrying at this stage of my life. I am too sure that my marriage is atleast 2-3 years away from now. I believe 27-29 is the right age for men to marry. But why did many of them got married so soon at the age of 25 itself?
Did they felt bored living bachelor life? (daily thanni adichi bore adichi-ducho? )
Like me, many of them didnt have girl friends to fight with. Is that a reason for marrying? I am sure if they had GF they wudnt have got married so early or even wud have detested marriage. :)
Or did they decided that they had learnt enough culinary skills to satiate their wives apetite? ( intha kalathula entha ponnu samaikara? hmmmm...)
May be they are very much interested in honouring the word 'bridegroom' by wielding 'broom' in the kitchen? (kalyanthuku apporam pasanga life thodappa kattai maathiri thaan.. )
May be they are all interested in having babies? I already got 4 'baby' mails from those who got married last year. (pasanga'lam entha vishayathula semma fastu thaan...)
Whatever be the reason, I remember reading these lines somewhere...
"Thru marriage, a man loses his bachelor's and a woman gains her master's" (100% true..)
Now my parents have started pestering me. (Entha parentskulam vera velaiye illaya?)
I am now afraid of losing my bachelors ....... :(
COMMENTS
Lankan CRYsis
The 'tear drop' island is shedding its tears again. It just lost its foriegn minister Lakshman Kadirgamar for LTTE's bullets. Its almost 3-4 years since the tigers killed any high-profile figures. They are again to their gory form but this time with the help of a sniper rather than their all famous 'human' bombs. What will be the fallout of this killing? Is this the beginning of the end of three year old ceasefire? Will it trigger another war in the already ravaged country?
Time and again the tigers have used the ceasefire period to augment their artilleries and wage another war with the army. Intelligence report even suggests that tigers have created their own air-force in the interim period. Tigers will go down in the history for being the first terrorist organisation in the world to have an exclusive air force.
Even after being banned in many countries like India,US,UK etc. the tigers haven't learnt their lessons properly. Its pity that their 20 yr old struggle havent yeilded any results and still they are adopting the path of violence as the only way to achieve their objective. Prabhakaran knows very well that Sri Lankan govt will not allow an independent tamil nation in the island at any cost. But his insistence on the same old notion shows that he is still not satisfied with the amount of blood shed by innocent tamils (approx 65000 ppl killed). Tigers should learn that the world has changed since 9/11 and their bombings will not be taken lightly anymore. They should evolve a time plan to stop their killings and bombings. The tigers will start thinking of alternatives if only the Lankan tamils settled abroad stop supporting / funding terrorism in their homeland. Until the funds dry up for Tigers and international community puts pressure on them to renounce violence, Sri Lanka will continue to bleed.....
COMMENTS
Rich Bride!! Poor Bride!!
I came across a blog discussing about US and India. Here is my take on that..
After being in US for some time, I would term US is like a rich bride. You will earn lot of money and also spend a lot. Its akin to maintaining a rich bride who gives you luxury and in turn makes you spend lavishly. What are the qualities of the so called rich bride? Haughty, arogant, pompous, egotistic, etc.. yeah..it all applies to US as well. Similar to marrying a rich bride one has to adjust himself by curtailing his freedom in US. If one's aim is only to earn a lot at the cost of happiness then this is the place to be.
What makes India a poor bride? India is now developing at a fast pace and it cannot be termed as poor. Its like when you marry a poor girl, you dont expect anything from her and you develop everything. India doesnt gives you any luxury, it expects you to find your own way.
Even if the life is difficult and money is hard to come, you get satisfaction and happiness in India.
For those who are struck with rich bride, I would suggest them to divorce her after milking enough money and marry the poor bride to settle happily.
COMMENTS
Woowwwwwwwww!!!!
It has been a scintillating day of cricket. Two close matches and my favorite teams romped victory in both the matches. I dont have words to describe the match between England and Australia. What a match it was? Warne, Lee and Kasprowicz fought bravely till the end and made it possible what many considered an impossible task to acheive. They chased the target very well and had nearly won the match except for the Harmison's rising delivery which kissed Kasprowicz glove (still in question?) and landed in Geriant Jones safe pair of gloves. I had a faint feeling yesterday that its not going to be easy for England and Aussies are known for thier fighting spirit which they have proved once again. England has to blame itself on fourth day for bowling too many short deliveries and for thier defensive fielding setup. Thank god England somehow won this match otherwise it would have been another dead rubber Ashes series and would have caused irreparable damage to this English team. This match has been a feast for all those cricket fans following Ashes. Kudos to Aussies and the English players for producing such a wonderful match.
My first kavidhai !!
Nammalum oru kavidhai kirukuvomnu try pannathu..
ennavaley!!
en anbullavaley!!
en ennamgalai aakaramithavaley!!
en idhayathil unnai pothaithaen!!
en poarvailkul thookathai tholaithaen!!
un paarvayil naan paithiyamaanen!!
un ninaivugalodu naan alaiginraen!!
ennavaley! nee engirukaai?
yean ennai maranthai?
en ninaivugalai eppadi thurandhai?
en vazhkaiai yean veenadithaai?
ennavaley! indru en kanvil varuvaya?
en kaelvigalukku badhil solvaya?
kanavey! nee kalaiyathey!!
en kanmaniyai poga vidathey!!
ennavaley! kanavilum ennai yematridathey!!
Go Down Aussie!!
I was very happy today.. I came to office early (according to my standards) by 10am to hear the BBC 5 live commentary for the Ashes. England had put up only a modest target of 282 for Aussies to chase. After seeing the scorecard, I felt that the Aussies would easily chase this target and take thier lead to 2-0. The reason being England dint had a quality spinner of Warne's calibre to win the match. But Flintoff with both bat and ball turned the game to Englands favour. Aussies are now reeling with just two wickets left and 100 odd runs to score for victory , which looks impossible. It was truly an amazing day of cricket with 17 wickets taken and 300 odd runs scored. Its a day to remember for Flintoff and all those English fans and for the anti-Aussie fans like me.
Hope England levels the series tommarow :)
How to catch Binny?
Its almost 4 yrs since Osama bombed WTC. For those who are not aware of 'defense', it is a presentation of one's thesis. I had never seen such a volatile defense. The poor guy was bombarded with questions for which he didnt had enough answers. His thesis had lot of holes which were pinpointed correctly, at the same time I felt his commitee members took an adverse stand and virtually ganged against him. The poor advisor cant speak more and in the end my friend was thrashed beyong recognition. The commitee members were so blunt that they refusd to sign his thesis. why am I writing it here? is it because that I will also be facing the same commitee members in another four months time? but anyway I am preparing myself to face it. There are still 4 months to go and my advisor also would guide me more effectively after this disaster. In the end I pity my friend for what he did to bring such an ignominy. Sorry dude.. Hope I do much better thesis and graduate in december.
COMMENTS
Kiricuttu..
India oru vazhiya WI'a jeyichuduchu... I really pity Dravid for the boys who r not giving enough support in batting. . perhaps Sehwag has to learn how to play moving/swinging balls in a pitch like Dambulla, he is yet to prove himself on a green pitch. Some consolation is that Raina played longer to justify his place, of course he is too young and got plenty of cricket ahead. Dhoni proved what he is by hitting six to finish off the match. I am ahppy that our bowling esp Pathan bowled well, hope he continues in this form in flat pitches like kandy, colombo..
Wat will happen wen Ganguly returns for the third match? Who will be axed if VVS also recovers? my guess is the poor Raina and V Rao. Surely these two need more time to prove their worth. Hope they get more chances in this series....
COMMENTS
Nethu Sathyaraj's 'englishkaaran' padam parthen.. he is too good in doing spoofs from Chandramukhi, 7G etc... he is one actor who keeps on acting in some junk movies, but still I admire him. .. nakkala paesarathu, loolu panrathu, fast dialogue delivery.. no one can beat him. ..
After seeing the recent tamil movies, i concluded that our directors (including Shankar) are terribly running short of ideas .
